Creating a Professional Learning Environment (PLE) is a complicated, involved process that by necessity includes the entire faculty and administration, and while it will necessarily look different from school to school, there are elements that every vibrant PLE has in common.
A successful school depends on high-quality faculty, and faculty growth depends on being in a PLE. Most schools do not purposefully create one, however. This course shows you what is needed for a PLE and how to get there from where you are now.
This course lays out the whys and hows of a meaningful PLE, as well as thoughts as to how to go about getting from where your school is now to an environment that will ensure that your teachers - and by extension your students - will be lifelong learners.
After teaching middle and high school for 10+ years, James earned a master's degree in educational technology in order to help schools and teachers better integrate technology into their programs. He does training and workshops at both conferences and schools.
You can read through the course over a week or two. However, to carry out the ideas herein in your school, you should plan on doing so over an entire school year. Even then, a PLE will not maintain itself.
There is no time limit per se, but we reserve the right to end access after two years, giving you two full summers to work on it.
Each unit has a discussion forum, so you can ask questions of other people, get answers, and answer other people's questions. The instructors will also endeavor to answer questions. If you are taking the course with colleagues, we encourage discussions about the content.
