List of Tasks and Activities

In each section of the course, you will create an activity using one or more of the various tools discussed. In each case, you should work through the readings and materials in the section beforehand. In order for us to give you feedback, please place links to the activity in your Developer's Notebook along with the assignment writeup.Along with it, ,you will write up the assignment to accompany it. For each assignment, your write up should include:

  • the wording of the assignment that you will give to your students
  • where/how they will complete it and turn it in;
  • how/where you will provide feedback.
  • a link to the website/tool/document

Note that in most cases you will need to create an account on the website. These are free, though some may have premium levels of functionality if you choose to use them.

NOTE that you are welcome to use a different tool/website.

Reading

Use the Genius.com Chrome extension or bookmarklet to annotate a page for your students to read. Write the assignment, including the link and any comprehension questions.

OR

Use Genius.com to upload a text. Annotate it and write up the assignment, including the link and any comprehension questions.

Writing

Choose one of the writing platforms, then craft a written assignment that focuses on some particular unit or lesson element. Make it clear how students will hand in the assignment and how you will assess and give feedback.

Research

Create a short assignment that includes having students find and site several sources using Google Docs and the citation tools available to create their document.

OR

Build an explanation of how to use the citation tools available online into an existing research assignment.

Collaborating

Collaboration is widely regarded as essential for success in the real world outside of school, but often gets subsumed by competition within school. Suggest a way or process by which you might demonstrate the importance of meaningful and successful collaboration to your students. Then create an assignment that incorporates it.

Reinforcement

Create a list in vocabulary.com and an accompanying assignment. Determine how you will verify/assess whether students did it (or needed/didn't need to).

OR

Create a set in Quizlet of at least 10 items, then choose one of the Quizlet activities and write an assignment utilizing it. Determine how you will verify/assess whether students did it (or needed/didn't need to).

Assessments

Create an assessment using Voicethread (or another tool). Create a new Voicethread and build the instructions into the Voicethread itself.

Audio/Video

Choose an existing video - created by you or not - and use one of the tools discussed to create an interactive assignment related to a particular unit. Write up the assignment.

Flipped Learning

1) Choose one of the tools discussed and create an assignment that flips your classroom for at least one class period.

AND

2) Create an explanation that makes it clear to your students that the burden of learning the content - at least the initial thrust - is on them.
